How to Promote Your Band With Old School Marketing Tricks That Most Bands Forget to Use

Most bands that are looking to get signed don't have a band promoter to do all the music marketing promotion for them. If this sounds like you, then this article will give you 7 ways you can promote your music the old school way.

Get A Free Website

Put together a free website at Blogger or MySpace and host your songs on your website. This free website will be how your fans can follow you and find out where your gigs are.

Put Together A Demo CD

This demo CD will be used to sell at your concerts. The price of having a CD made these days is laughable. For less than $2, you can turn your MP3 recordings into a CD that you can sell for $10 or better.

Be Involved With The Community

Get involved with community events that you can help promote, like Habitat for Humanity or programs for special needs kids. Maybe even put on a free show for them. That way you might even get some local news coverage for free. Either way, your community will see your involvement and want to support you based on that merit alone.

Search Social Networking Sites

Many times, bands that are similar to yours are looking for people to do gigs with so they can draw a larger crowd. Snoop around the social networking sites and look for bands similar to yours in surrounding cities and states and see what you can come up with.

Mail Your Demo To Local Radio Stations

Every DJ loves local bands; they get a sense of pride when they talk about their local music scene. Your town is no different. So mail your demo CD to the local radio station at least once a week. The CD only costs like five bucks and the postage is cheap. You may get some free radio exposure out of this so be persistent.

Give Away Your CDs At Concerts

Make sure you support the other local bands in your town. And when you do, pass out some of your CDs for free after the show. Everybody will listen to the CD you gave them, and if your music doesn't suck then maybe you've gained some new fans.

Hand Out Flyers All Over Town

This one sounds too easy or corny, but it's very effective. Have some flyers made up for your band and promote you next gig with it. Give it to all the grocery stores, schools, malls, local merchants; post it on all the message boards at neighborhoods and so on. A couple thousand flyers should be good and it won't cost that much to implement. Just a little bit of money and your time.
